Nintendo's Appearance On The VGX Was... Awkward

Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime came to today's exclusive-news-filled VGX show today to reveal Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze's release date, confirm a leaked character—Cranky Kong, and show a couple of gorgeous levels of the game. Enough? Not according to VGX host Geoff Keighley, as you'll see in the clip here. Is Nintendo being a bit too stingy? Should they be dropping us some Metroid news, perhaps?P
Here's a bit of the game as it was shown at the VGX. A rep from the game's development studio, Retro, talks us through it...

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze VGX Footage

Here is the footage from VGX of Reggie Fils-Aime showing off Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. It also has a sneak peak at the fourth playable character, Cranky Kong.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Release Date

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was confirmed to be hitting shelves on February 1st 2014. As previously mentioned, Cranky Kong has been confirmed as a playable character by Reggie and Cranky will be able to use his cane to bounce and attack enemies.

Cranky Kong Confirmed for Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze

Color me extremely disappointed with Nintendo's VGX 2013 appearance. They decided to showcase none other than Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze for Wii U. Reggie confirmed that Cranky Kong is in fact the 4th playable character in the game. As if that wasn't already disappointing enough, it was already leaked when Amazon posted the official box art. What do you think?

Game Informer Says Nintendo Will Be Showing a Previously Announced Title at VGX

To most, this is going to be received as bad news. Game Informer has just clarified that Nintendo will be showing a previously announced Wii U title at the VGX Awards. Most are assuming that the title will be Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

I'll go ahead and say that if that is the case, Nintendo is in trouble. Sales are continuing to plummet and Nintendo needs to give gamers a better reason to purchase the Wii U. Let's hope its Zelda or X.

Here is Game Informer's tweet:

“Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, will be on-hand to talk about a previously announced Wii U title.”
